PROMED Project

Active from 2023 to 2027

The PROMED project, coordinated by the Fondazione Acquario di Genova Onlus, was entirely funded by a donation from the Aderholt Goh Trust (Singapore and Hawaii).

It is a project that has as its general objective to evaluate the conservation status of cetaceans living in the Mediterranean and to monitor the diversity of species, particularly in relation to climate change that can affect primary production and biodiversity.

The objectives are as follows:

  1. Ensure the IT improvement of the Intercet platform ( https://www.intercet.it/ ), to ensure the full compatibility of the platform with the most modern IT environments, considering that all data on cetaceans will be managed by the same platform.

  1. Develop a dedicated app for the platform, to facilitate and speed up data entry, which can also be used from mobile platforms (smartphones and tablets), which can automatically upload data to the Intercet platform.

  1. Expand partner coverage and support data flows to update and enrich the common database, to improve the quality of analysis.

  1. Support local search campaigns, to cover areas not currently covered by partners. In particular, a campaign will be activated in the Adriatic.

  1. Support in-depth analyses on the common database, also using predictive models to evaluate the spatial-temporal distribution of cetaceans, also in correlation with the effects of climate change.

  1. Disseminate the aims and results of the project through communication campaigns, including through the development of a specific website, but also through traditional and innovative media.

As part of the PROMED project, the two rubbers used for monitoring in the Liguria area have been completely renewed and several communication initiatives have been planned.
