The Foundation has been carrying out activities in this sector at national and international level for years, with particular attention to the sustainable use of aquatic resources.
In 2004, together with the Friends of the Aquarium Association, a series of conferences was created entitled “The Other Sea on the Table”, which was the subject of a dedicated volume published in the “Quaderni di Venerdì Scienza”.
In 2005, at the Slow Food Presidia General States and Slow Fish, the Fondazione Acquario di Genova Onlus organised its own stand, distributing information material on the sustainable use of aquatic resources.
Also in 2005, the Acquario di Genova Onlus Foundation held conferences on the topic at the 3rd World Ocean Network Congress in Boulogne-sur-Mer and at the 3rd UNESCO Global Ocean Forum in Paris, where it also chaired a session.
In 2006, following the positive experience of the Premio Impresa Ambiente and after having developed an in-depth and advanced international know-how, the brand was registered, which characterizes aquatic products produced in an ethical and sustainable way ( https://ecocrest.org ).
In 2007, together with the Association of Friends of the Aquarium, a series of conferences was created entitled “Children of a Minor Neptune”, which was the subject of a dedicated volume published in the “Quaderni di Venerdì Scienza”.
In 2010, in collaboration with the Friends of the Aquarium Association, a conference was held entitled “The Mediterranean between sustainable fishing and gastronomic tourism – a different approach to the conservation of Mediterranean biodiversity”, with Prof. Corrado Piccinetti as its main speaker.
In 2012, a book on bluefin tuna was published (Le ragioni del tonno, N. Repetto and S. Rossi edt., SAGEP edit., Genova), which was awarded the Best in the World Gourmand Word Cookbook Award 2014 (section Sustainable Food) in Beijing.
Since 2013, a representative of the Fondazione Acquario di Genova Onlus has been part of the Board of the Muy Noble Sociedad de los Amigos del Atún y Amantes del Vino of Isla Cristina (Spain), providing annual specific conferences on the history of tuna fishing and the sustainable consumption of the catch.
In April 2018, the Acquario di Genova Onlus Foundation was invited as a speaker at the conference “The fish supply chain in Sardinia”, held in Olbia.
In 2019, together with the Accademia Italiana della Cucina, the Fondazione Acquario di Genova Onlus organizes the conference “The sustainable use of marine species in Italian cuisine”, with a themed dinner.
Also in 2019, the Fondazione Acquario di Genova Onlus participated as a speaker at the event organized by Focus/Mondadori at Porto Antico, on the theme “How much fish do we have left?” (thanks to the support of Porto Antico di Genova SpA).
In 2022, with the support of the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Mediterranean Fisheries - Department of Mediterranean Fisheries of the Sicily Region and the Mareamico Association, the volume "The Taste of the Sea. Sicilian Fish in the Kitchen" was created, in collaboration with Prof. Corrado Piccinetti.
In 2023, a representative of the Fondazione Acquario di Genova Onlus participated in the Girotonno event in Carloforte, also as part of the events on sustainable gastronomy
In 2024, a representative of the Fondazione Acquario di Genova Onlus was invited to give a conference on the topic of sustainable consumption of large pelagic fish and their presence in Ligurian gastronomy, at a conference organized by the Genoa Delegation of the Italian Academy of Cuisine.
