Period: 2011 – ongoing

Intercet ( www.intercet.it ) is a Web GIS platform designed and developed by Acquario di Genova for Regione Liguria within the INTERREG project “GIONHA” (Governance and Integrated Observation of marine Natural Habitat). The function of Intercet is to promote the sharing and integrated analysis of data collected by different subjects involved in the study of cetaceans and marine turtles, in order to give maximum value to the single scientific data, but also ensuring an overall vision that allows the development of indices based on the same data collection method. The management of the Intercet platform (owned by Regione Liguria) has been officially entrusted to Fondazione Acquario di Genova through a non-onerous management agreement between the original partners of the GIONHA project.

Since 2014, Intercet has been included in the Mediterranean Bottlenose Dolphin Conservation Plan of ACCOBAMS (Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans in the Black Sea Mediterranean Sea and Contiguous Atlantic Area – www.accobams.org ) as a networking tool at Mediterranean level.

The dataset (as of 2024) consists of over 800,000 km of sampling and over 25,000 sightings relating to 13 cetacean species.

The Intercet platform, which is regularly updated and improved thanks to the Fondazione Acquario di Genova Onlus, has also benefited from financial support from the Aderholt Goh Trust as part of the PROMED project
