Agreement with the Ministry of Education

The agreement provides for the development of educational activities, including in schools and extracurricular activities, in relation to marine issues. The agreement provides that the activities are managed jointly, on the basis of the decisions of a Joint Commission, agreed in 2009.

Agreement for the promotion of conscious consumption in the aquatic resources sector
Active since 2005 – ongoing.
The framework agreement provides for collaboration to develop programs and actions in the field of promoting conscious consumption in the aquatic resources sector and in the development of education and awareness programs involving producers, distributors and consumers.

Collaboration agreement on information and awareness activities for marine plastics.
Active since 2017 – ongoing
The formal collaboration agreement was signed after an important conference held at the Genoa Aquarium on December 4, 2017, which was attended, in addition to the partners, by official representatives of the Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of the U.S. Government, COREPLA and Plastic Change.
The memorandum of understanding between the partners (which also provides for a continuous exchange of information) has as its main objective the improvement of the environmental situation in relation to the problem of plastics in the sea, also developing public education and awareness activities.
In 2020, the Genoa Science Festival organized a meeting on the problem of plastics in the sea, where we participated as speakers in the debate, invited by the publishing house Springer.
In 2020, The Garbage Patch State President, Arch. Cristina Finucci, served as jury president for a plastic art competition at the Genoa Aquarium.
In 2023, boats competing in The Ocean Race around the world flew the Garbage Patch State flag at every port they visited.

Collaboration agreement with ACCOBAMS
Active from 2018 to 2019
The collaboration agreement with ACCOBAMS (Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea Mediterranean Sea and Contiguous Atlantic Area – www.accobams.org ), which follows an informal collaboration relationship started in 2014 for the INTERCET platform, has provided for the formulation of a Conservation and Management Plan (CMP) for the bottlenose dolphin ( Tursiops truncatus ) in the Mediterranean Sea.
The CMP for the Bottlenose Dolphin, drawn up after a series of international comparisons, was regularly sent to ACCOBAMS within the expected deadlines.

Collaboration agreement with Costa Crociere Foundation
Active from 2022 to 2024.
The collaboration agreement included a series of training activities for teachers and students, the creation of various podcasts and communication to the public also with actions via social media and specialist consultancy for citizen science projects. The activities were carried out in close collaboration with Costa Edutainment SpA for many aspects. As part of the agreement, the Fondazione Acquario di Genova Onlus participated in the meeting of various Corporate Foundations organized by the Fondazione Costa Crociere and Assifero on board a ship and also in a round table as part of the annual meeting of Italian Mayors (ANCI).
Furthermore, the Fondazione Acquario di Genova Onlus collaborated in communicating the “Guardiani della Costa” project to the media and collaborated with ENEA for a first scientific communication at the annual SIBM meeting, regarding the presence of microplastics along the Italian coastlines, with data obtained as part of the “Guardiani della Costa” project of the Fondazione Costa Crociere Onlus.
