Active from 2003 to 2005
The ProPosidonia project has seen the development of differentiated activities. The first was an ex situ research, carried out by the Fondazione Acquario di Genova Onlus, with funding from Banca Popolare di Novara, with the technical collaboration of the Acquario di Genova – Costa Edutainment SpA, aimed at verifying the possibilities of maintaining and growing plants in the tank, also starting from seeds collected on the beaches. In this context, agreements were also developed with OSRAM, for the development of special and specific lighting systems, which would allow the growth of plants in the tank.
The second was the development of a large project, involving the University of Genoa – DIPTERIS, the Fondazione Acquario di Genova Onlus and the Acquario di Genova – Costa Edutainment SpA, for which the support of the Liguria Region was also requested. This large project should have involved a broad-spectrum study on the Posidonia oceanica ecosystem, a mapping of the areas of interest in Liguria (also with the aim of better defining the SIC), an assessment of the state of conservation, an assessment of the possibility of recovery in the various sites and a parameterization of the environmental and economic aspects. Unfortunately, this second part of the project never received the necessary funding.
