As part of the long-term strategy that aims to reach a Universal Declaration of Ocean Rights by the end of the UN Decade for the Ocean, i.e. 2030, it has been established that the first part of the process, made up of events, Innovation Workshops, Summits and with the support of the Relay4Nature and OneBlueVoice tools, will be called the “Genova Process”, thanks to the official support given by the Municipality of Genoa to The Ocean Race, supported for the scientific part by the Fondazione Acquario di Genova.

On 24 March 2022, the Genova Process was officially launched at the Yacht Club de Monaco, as part of The Ocean Week. The event was attended by HSH Prince Albert of Monaco, HE Wavel Ramkalawan (President of the Republic of Seychelles), Amb. Peter Thomson (UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Ocean), Amb. Ronny Jumeau, and, for the Core Group for Ocean Rights, Michelle Bender, Mumta Ito, Johan Strid, Richard Brisius and Antonio Di Natale.

On March 28, 2022, the first Innovation Workshop of the Genova Process was held in Genoa, with the participation of the Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci, Richard Brisius, Johan Strid, Michelle Bender, Antonio Di Natale and numerous scientists from various disciplines.
